Norfolk, VA Car Accident Injury Lawyer Report – Driver is Arrested for DUI After Road Worker is Injured in Norfolk
A driver who is accused of hitting and seriously injuring a road worker within a work zone on I-64 in Norfolk, VA has been arrested for a DUI.
Virginia State police were called out to an accident scene at 9:20 p.m. on April 24. Our Norfolk pedestrian accident injury lawyers are saddened to report this accident involved a serious injury to a road worker.
State police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya said the work zone consisted of a “double left lane closure to replace sections of broken concrete. There were two different work locations within the lane closure.”
The work zone was on I-64 west, just east of Northampton Blvd, she said.
State police said the driver of a Dodge Avenger passed a work crew filling a hole with concrete. He then drove into the far left lane, which was closed where he hit a worker with the second crew that was operating a concrete saw.
The victim was identified as Riguel Dexter Durant, of Woodbox Drive in Virginia Beach.
Anaya said he suffered serious injuries and was transported to Sentara Norfolk General hospital. The driver of the Avenger was given field sobriety tests and was arrested for a DUI by trooper, according to state police.
The thoughts of our Norfolk DUI accident injury attorneys are with this worker’s family. We see far too many accidents that are caused by intoxicated drivers.
