Child Injured in Fatal Park Place, Norfolk Wreck is Making a Recovery
A tragic crash in Norfolk that claimed the life of a nine-year-old boy and seriously injured another child has made headlines this week.
This crash that occurred close to our Ghent offices in Park Place in Norfolk on Monday, appears to have involved a pickup truck that went through the intersection. An eyewitness told a TV station the driver ran a red light at the intersection of W 27th Street and Llewellyn Avenue.
Yesterday Norfolk police identified the boy who died as a child from Moyock, NC. A report on WAVY.com said the seven-year-old was making a recovery at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters. He was listed as being in a critical condition on Monday. I hope this child is able to able to make a full recovery.

Norfolk Police said the children were in a minivan that was traveling westbound down W. 27th Street when a pickup truck traveling southbound on Llewellyn Avenue went straight through the intersection and struck the van. After the van and pickup collided, the van crashed into a utility pole, according to media reports. Both of the two young boys were ejected from the van. Police said evidence suggested the child who lost his life was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the impact.
The mother who was driving the minivan was also taken to the hospital for treatment. She is expected to recover. The driver and passenger of the pickup truck involved in the crash were treated for minor injuries.
Many questions linger over this terrible and unexpected accident, in particular what caused a pick-up truck to go through an intersection. The incident remains under investigation. Police do not believe that alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident. The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office is to decide if charges should be filed.
