Norfolk Accident Injury Report – Firm’s $150,000 Settlement is Reported in Virginia Lawyers Weekly
BODY – A case in which my colleague, the Norfolk, VA accident injury attorney John Cooper, secured a $150,000 settlement for a student who broke his leg in a motorcycle accident, has been reported in Virginia Lawyers Weekly.
In this case the plaintiff was an Old Dominion University student in summer school. He was in his final year of ROTC and about to begin his Army career.
His career was delayed when a woman failed to yield the right of way in Hampton, VA and took a left turn in front of John’s client’s motorcycle. The student broke his leg in the crash.
Although liability was contested, the accident was a classic case of a failure-to-yield turning left, which is one of the most common types of collisions for motorcyclists.
As experienced Norfolk, VA motorcycle wreck injury lawyers, we see far too many cases in which drivers have failed to notice a motorcyclist before it is too late.
Lawyers for the defendant in this case tried unsuccessful to imply the plaintiff was riding too fast or not paying attention.
There were issues about noncompliance with post-surgical care because John’s client was a young man who just wanted to get on with his life. The accident meant his entrance in the military was delayed by about four months.
Fortunately, in this case, the motorcyclist was able to join the Army after his injuries healed. Sadly, this is not always the case when the drivers of cars hit motorcyclists. Head injuries are common in these kinds of accidents, and sometimes they can prove fatal.
The case settled within one month of trial.
