Virginia Beach Rear-End Accident Causes Death – Why Rear Enders Are Common
Rear-end collisions are one of the most common types of wreck we see in Virginia as accident lawyers. Often the driver who hits a car or truck ahead is to blame but this is not always the case. A car may pull out in front of you or a truck may be illegally stopped in the road. Often motorcyclists hit cars that pull out in front of them at intersections.
If you or a loved one is injured, immediately seek medical attention and then consider hiring a personal injury lawyer before you talk to an insurance company. You should also gather what evidence you can from the accident scene.
Negligence is an important term that lawyers use when they consider car, truck and motorcycle accidents in Virginia. You are considered to be negligent if your actions fall short of what a reasonable person would or would not have done under the circumstances that led to a car wreck.
Although rear-enders are not usually as serious as T-bone or head-on accidents, they can prove to be fatal on occasions.
This is particularly so if you are rear-ended by a larger vehicle like a truck as in the case of a van driver whose family hired us. He was struck from behind by a drowsy box truck driver when he was stopped at an intersection in Hampton Roads. Tragically, he failed to survive the impact. The family was awarded $1.5 million in a wrongful death lawsuit.
Last year, 25 people were killed on the roads of Virginia Beach. The city saw more deaths than anywhere else in Hampton Roads.
