Richard Owen Pentz of Virginia Beach is Hit and Killed by Car in School Parking Lot
A woman from Virginia Beach has been charged with second degree murder after a man was mown down in a parking lot of a school in the city.
Virginia Beach Police Department spokesman MPO J.C. Cason Jr. said in a press release the incident occurred on September 21, at about 5:25 a.m. Police officers were called out to the parking lot of Plaza Middle School at 3080 South Lynnhaven Road where a citizen reported a man had been hit a vehicle.
A man who was identified as Richard Owen Pentz of Virginia Beach was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries where he later died, said police. My thoughts are with the family of Mr. Pentz.
Police later arrested a 39-year-old woman from Rutherglenn Muse in Virginia Beach. She was charged with second degree murder and is being held in the Virginia Beach City Jail on no bond.
It’s not clear from police reports whether the suspect knew the victim. When a pedestrian is killed in this fashion, as well as the criminal law being brought against the driver, his family often has grounds to bring a wrongful death lawsuit against the insurance company of the at-fault driver.
A wrongful death claim can reimburse the family of the deceased for many costs including funeral costs, medical expenses and projected loss of future earnings of the deceased.
