Motorcyclist is Seriously Injured by Car Making a Turn onto 16th Street in Virginia Beach
I read with depressing regularity about crashes in which car drivers fail to notice a motorcycle when making a turn. The consequences are often devastating or even tragic for the motorcyclist.
In Virginia Beach today a motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries after just such a crash on Pacific Avenue.
Tonya Borman of Virginia Beach Police Department, said members of the Fatal Crash Team were sent to the scene of a crash involving a motorcyclist near the intersection of 16th Street and Pacific Avenue just after noon on October 1.
Their investigations revealed a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling south on Pacific Avenue while a 1998 Honda Prelude was traveling northbound on Pacific Avenue.
“The Honda Prelude was attempting to turn left onto 16th Street. The Honda proceeded to make the turn, into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision, but impacted the front of the Honda,” Borman said in a press release.
A 19-year-old woman from Virginia Beach was later charged with failure to yield by police. Borman said neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash.
As an experienced Virginia motorcycle accident injury lawyer, I see far too many crashes in which innocent motorcyclists are seriously injured or killed by drivers who fail to notice them when making turns.
My thoughts are with the family of the motorcyclist who was seriously injured.
This case remains under investigation by the Department’s Fatal Crash Team, police said.
Our attorneys are strong believers in the rights of motorcyclists, right that are sadly often ignored by other road users. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) there are more than 100,000 motorcycle accidents every year.
Because they lack any external covering or protection, motorcyclists are 39 times more likely to die in an accident. If you are seriously hurt in a motorcycle crash you will want to recover the most to meet your medical care bills. Call our Virginia Beach motorcycle lawyers for a free consultation.
