Man is Killed by Truck on Virginia Beach’s Northampton Boulevard
When you are sitting in your car at red light or preparing to stop, the last thing you expect is to be hit from behind by another vehicle.
Sadly, wrecks at red lights and intersections happen far too often in Hampton Roads. Many of our clients at Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers were hurt by red light runners or people who just failed to slow down.
It’s rarer to be fatally injured at a red light but it happens. Tragically, the driver of a Lexus was killed when he was hit by a pickup truck in Virginia Beach on Monday night.
WAVY.com reported on how police responded to a fatal accident at the intersection of Northampton Boulevard and Pleasure House Road just before 7 p.m. on Monday evening
WAVY reported a Lexus was coming to a stop at the red light when a maroon pickup truck with a trailer crashed into the Lexus from behind.
The impact was so severe, the driver of the Lexus was killed at the scene. A female passenger in the Lexus was hospitalized with injuries. The extent of her injuries was not made clear in media reports.
The driver of the truck was not injured in the wreck. The 27-year-old pickup truck driver from Maryland was later charged with reckless driving.
This was the second fatal wreck in Virginia Beach in the space of five hours. Earlier, a 5-month-old girl was killed in a fiery wreck on I-264 at Rosemont Road in Virginia Beach.
Our deepest condolences go to the families of the victims of both of these accidents. In both cases, cars were hit from behind by larger vehicles with devastating results.
It’s imperative that drivers slow down in busy traffic or when they are approaching intersections. We have helped people whose lives and careers have been wrecked by inconsiderate and reckless drivers, such as a young man from the Eastern Shore who suffered brain damage when he was hit by a red light runner in Virginia Beach.
