John Cooper and Jim Hurley To Present to the Virginia Beach Bar Association
Cooper Hurley attorneys John Cooper and Jim Hurley will be presenting a seminar to the Virginia Beach Bar Association on September 10, following on from a successful event last year.
The two hour long seminar is entitled Injury Law Insights and Issues and is aimed at attorneys. The seminar attracts two hours of credit, including one hour of ethics.
John Cooper will be presenting a section about the law of premises liability and Jim Hurley will be making a presentation about creative ways to market your practice.
John will be assisted in his presentation by Louis Sherman, a retired judge and Jim will be assisted by attorney Kellam Parks.
The presentations are similar in nature to those given by the Cooper Hurley attorneys to the Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association last year. John’s top ten tips from a plaintiff’s lawyer formed the basis of the book Top 10 Tips If You Are Injured at a Store, Hotel or Restaurant in Virginia.
The presentation includes advice on:
1 – Knowing how claims are handled;
2 – Proving a business was at fault;
3 – Not contributing to your injury;
4 – Forcing a business to secure surveillance tape;
5 – Using Your Smart Phone;
6 – Hiring the right kind of experts;
7 – Showing your harms and losses.
John Cooper has represented many clients in premises liability cases which include slip and falls or cases where an object has fallen on somebody at a premises.
Jim’s presentation will look at how attorneys can market themselves without falling foul of the rules of the Virginia State Bar. He will talk about the kinds of claims lawyers can and cannot make in advertising in Virginia.
The event runs from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on September 10 at Eagles Nest, 600 Nevan Road in Virginia Beach.
