Girl, 14 is Injured on Her Bicycle on Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach
In Virginia Beach a 14-year-old girl has been hit and injured riding her bicycle while she was crossing Princess Anne Road.
WTKR.com reported the girl appeared to have sustained a head injury. The 14-year-old was crossing Princess Anne Road near Huckleberry Lane on the afternoon of May 11, 2013, when she was hit. The intersection does not have a crosswalk, according to reports.
As a Virginia Beach injury lawyer I see far too many instances of pedestrians and cyclists being hit every year in the city. In some cases the fault is with inattentive drivers. Even where there is no crosswalk you should look out for people crossing at intersections.
Eyewitnesses said the girl and another girl were crossing the street. While the victim’s friend made it across safely, the 14-year-old year old was hit.
Paramedics took her to Norfolk Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. The extent of the girl’s injuries are unknown. Eyewitnesses said she appeared to be bleeding heavily and was unconscious for a while.
My thoughts are with the girl and her family. I hope she makes a full recovery.
The WTKR report also raised questions about whether there should be a crosswalk at the intersection. A local resident said he had seen four serious accidents here in the space of a year.
