Accident on Pruden Boulevard in Suffolk Claims the Life of 80-year-old Woman
Accidents on Pruden Boulevard in Suffolk are all too common. I was saddened to read recently about a crash that claimed the life of an 80-year-old woman.
Tim Kelley with the City of Suffolk, said the accident happened in the 5000 block of Pruden Boulevard, also known as Route 460. The crash was called in to police at 3:59 p.m. on December 21, 2013.

80-year-old Josephine Gwaltney, a passenger in the minivan, was taken to Sentara Obici Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. My thoughts are with the family of Mrs. Gwaltney.
A WAVY.com report said the driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries, and was also taken to the hospital. The driver of the minivan was not hurt.
The accident led to the closure of Route 460 for about four hours. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Suffolk’s Pruden Boulevard has seen a string of serious auto, motorcycle and truck accidents over the last two years.
- In September, 2013, an accident involving two tractor trailers and six cars on Pruden Boulevard left a man from Virginia Beach dead and seven people injured.
- In December, 2012, a motorcyclist was seriously injured in an accident on Pruden Boulevard (Route 460).
Passengers often end up injured or killed in car crashes. When a passenger dies due to the fault of a driver, his or her family members may have grounds to bring a wrongful death suit against the driver’s insurance policy.
