Rear-end Accident ‘at Speed’ in Newport News Leaves Two Injured
Rear-end crashes are among the most common kind of accidents I deal with in my work as a Newport News car accident lawyer.
In many cases a driver fails to slow down or pay adequate attention to a car stopped ahead. However, I was shocked at the circumstances of a recent accident that left two women injured on Jefferson Avenue in Newport News, one of them with possible life-threatening injuries.
Holly McPherson of the Newport News Police Department told the TV station WAVY.com the crash occurred just before 1 p.m. on December 3 at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Hogan Drive.
WAVY reported on how a van occupied by a woman and a male passenger was stopped at a red light in the northbound lanes of Jefferson Avenue when a red SUV driven by a 22-year-old woman hit the van from behind. McPherson said the SUV was traveling at a ‘high rate of speed.”
After hitting the van, the SUV flipped over. Both the van and the SUV driver were taken to a local hospital and the SUV driver’s injuries were potentially life-threatening. The male passenger of the van was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Newport News Police Department.
