Police Department Employee is Seriously Injured in Northampton Boulevard Collision

Northampton Boulevard is one of the most congested roads in our area. Every year we see serious accidents on this highway in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. I was saddened to hear a Virginia Beach Police Department employee was seriously injured in a Northampton Boulevard collision.
The crash caused major traffic congestion toward the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel Thursday morning.
According to media reports, this serious accident occurred at around 7:09 a.m. in the 4400 block of Northampton Boulevard. It involved a sedan and pick-up truck, Virginia Beach Police MPO Linda J. Kuehn said.
The police spokeswoman said the sedan was traveling east on Northampton Boulevard. It slowing down to stop when it was struck from behind by the truck.
Kuehn said the driver of the sedan was a VBPD employee. The police department employee sustained serious injuries but is expected to make a complete recovery.
The reason for this collision was unclear. Rear-end accidents are the most common type of wreck on our roads. Often drivers and passengers who are hit from behind suffer back and neck injuries.
This is not the first time in recent years that we have seen a serious Northampton Boulevard collision.
Two years ago, the driver of a Lexus was killed when he was hit by a pickup truck in on Northampton Boulevard in Virginia Beach. The wreck occurred at the intersection of Northampton Boulevard and Pleasure House Road.
According to media reports, the Lexus was coming to a stop at the red light on Northampton Boulevard when a maroon pickup truck with a trailer crashed into the car from behind.
The impact of the collision was so severe, the driver of the Lexus was killed at the scene. A female passenger in the car was hospitalized with injuries.
These incidents raise the question why there are so many rear-end crashes on Virginia Beach’s Northampton Boulevard.
One reason appears to be the sheer volume of traffic and the stop and start nature of the traffic during peak hours. Drivers should keep their wits about them and be prepared to stop. Aggressive driving and excess speed in traffic of this nature is a recipe for disaster.
In most rear-end accidents, the driver who hit the car, truck or motorcyclist in front is culpable for the wreck. When you sustain serious injuries, it’s important to recover as much compensation as possible. Don’t rely on the insurance company to give you what you deserve. You should call a Virginia Beach car accident lawyer who will fight the insurance company to help you get what you deserve.
