Passenger Rakan Ali Mansour from Suffolk and Driver Died in Route 58 Truck Crash
Two people who lost their lives in a wrong way crash between a pickup truck and a big rig in on notorious Route 58 in Suffolk last week have been named, but the cause of the horrific accident is still unclear.
A truck driver also received injuries in the crash after being hit by a Toyota Tundra that was traveling in the wrong direction. The two occupants of the pickup were killed after the Tundra, driving the wrong way, on Route 58, slammed into a tractor-trailer early Friday morning.
Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue were called to the accident scene on Rt. 58, near Godwin Boulevard at 12:49 a.m. for a report of a two-vehicle accident.
Tim Kelley, a spokesman for the City of Suffolk, said the two vehicles collided head-on after a the Tundra, was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes. After the crash, the driver of the tractor-trailer crossed the median and his tractor-trailer ended up in the eastbound lanes.
The driver of the Toyota Tundra was later identified as 35-year-old Wade Baker of Suffolk, and his passenger was 26-year-old Rakan Ali Mansour of Suffolk, WAVY.com reported. Tragically both were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was treated for his injuries at the scene and transported to Sentara Obici Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident led to the closure of Route 58 in both directions for a number of hours in the early hours of Friday morning while police investigated. All westbound and eastbound lanes of Route 58 reopened shortly after 9:30 a.m.
My thoughts as a personal injury lawyer who helps many clients from Suffolk, are with the families of the deceased and the truck driver. It’s hard to take evasive action to avoid a wrong way driver, particularly in the dark. The family of a deceased passenger may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim against the insurance policy of a driver. Lawyers are the last people you want to think about after a tragedy. However, the loss of a loved one can cause serious financial hardship.
If you are injured due to the actions of a wrong way driver, you will also have grounds to make a personal injury claim. Call Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers at 757.455.0077 or see CooperHurley.com. When It Really Counts, Count on Cooper Hurley.
