Newport News Pedestrian Accident Injury Lawyer Report : Man is Killed Crossing Jefferson Avenue in Newport News
The dangers facing pedestrians on Jefferson Avenue in Newport News have again been illustrated following the death of a 54-year-old man in the city.
Newport News police say Michael Ray Lassiter was struck and killed by an SUV on November 1, 2012 on the busy road.
My thoughts as an experienced Newport News pedestrian accident injury lawyer are with his family.
The accident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Bellwood Road and Jefferson Avenue in Newport News, WVEC.com reported.
Police spokesman Harold Eley the man stepped in front of a vehicle as he tried to cross Jefferson Ave.
No charges had been placed against the 57-year-old driver from Chesapeake, according to police.
Even in cases where criminal charges were not brought the family of a dead pedestrian may have a case to bring a wrongful death lawsuit. Factors such as the speed of a car or whether the pedestrian was on a crosswalk may be relevant.
