Newport News Car Accident Lawyer Report – Teen Riding in Bed of Pickup Dies in New Kent County
It’s not clear from reports why a man from Toano was driving a pickup in a field in Lanexa with a 17-year-old girl in the cab and three other people in the bed of a truck.
What is clear is that something went badly wrong in the early hours of August 6, 2012, and the pickup crashed, killing Alison Farmer, a 19-year-old from James City County who died later at VCU Medical Center from her injuries. She was a graduate of Lafayette High School. New Kent Sheriff’s Office said the pickup was being driven in a field off Homestead Road near Diascund Reservoir, about 12:30 a.m.

The Daily Press reported that two other adults in the bed of truck suffered minor injuries and did not need to be taken to hospital. The 17-year-old suffered minor injuries and was later released from a local hospital.
As an experienced Newport News car and truck accident injury lawyer, my thoughts are with the family of the dead girl. The driver Joshua Earl Apperson, 20, is facing criminal charges, according to the Daily Press. I would not be surprised if he is also the subject of a wrongful death lawsuit.
The Daily Press reported the driver was charged with involuntary manslaughter as well as felony child endangerment. He is also faces misdemeanor charges of reckless driving as well as underage possession of alcohol.
As Virginia injury lawyers we have obtained a number of verdicts and settlements in wrongful death cases including a $3.5 million settlement for the family of a man who was killed when he was hit by a big rig in Norfolk, VA.
