John Cooper is a founding partner of Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers, a personal injury-only law firm based in Norfolk, Virginia.
The National Trial Lawyers Association is a leading, invitation-only organization that provides networking, training, and support for the attorneys who fight for justice for their clients in the courtrooms of America.
The National Trial Lawyers Top 100 is an invitation-only organization composed of the leading trial lawyers in every state.
To meet the high bar of the organization, lawyers must satisfy stringent qualifications as civil plaintiff attorneys or criminal defense counsel, states the National Trial Lawyers Association.
Attorneys are selected after a rigorous process that includes peer nominations and third-party research. Membership is given to the select few of the most qualified lawyers from each state or region. The lawyers must demonstrate superior leadership, influence, reputation, stature, and public profile.
The National Trial Lawyers Top 100 provides ongoing education to attorneys as well as networking. It helps lawyers stay up to date with the rapidly-changing legal landscape. Through its professional networking opportunities, information, and CLE (Continuing Legal Education) programs, the organization aims to give its members a “competitive edge in today’s ever-changing legal profession.”
As well as holding an influential annual Trial Lawyers Summit, The National Trial Lawyers publishes a quarterly magazine called The Trial Lawyer.
John Cooper has practiced personal injury law for more than three decades. He was raised in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. He earned his B.A. at the University of California at Berkeley, and a J.C at the University of Virginia Law School. He is licensed to practice law in Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia.
He has litigated many big cases in the areas of brain injury, trucking accidents, railroad worker (FELA) claims, premises liability, and other auto accident cases.
John Cooper is a former chair of FELA Litigation Group of the American Association for Justice, the largest plaintiffs’ attorney organization in the United States. He is a Governor at-large of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and has organized many CLE events for attorneys in the Commonwealth. He is an active supporter of the Brain Injury Association of Virginia and a member of the Multimillion Dollar Advocates Roundtable.
He joined forces with Jim Hurley to set up Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers in Hampton Roads in 2011. The law firm has since expanded to seven attorneys.
