Defective Child Locks Cause Ford Recall, As Chrysler Defects Are Linked to Fire Deaths

Two of America’s largest automakers have been involved in recalls following the discovery of defects which pose potential dangers to those traveling in their cars.
Recently the Associated Press reported Ford is recalling more than 13,000 Explorer, Taurus and Lincoln MKS cars and SUVs because the child safety locks may not be working properly the rear doors.
As a parent as well as a Virginia Beach personal injury lawyer, I recall how concerned we used to be to make sure child safety locks work, in the past.
The recall affects 2013 model cars sold mainly in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
The recall comes at a time when Chrysler is in the midst of a recall of model year 2002-2007 Liberty and 1993-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles.
An investigation by the NHTSA found fuel tank defects that had led to fatal fires following rear end crashes. A letter from the agency to Chrysler detailed “numerous fire related deaths and injuries.”
About 50 people have lost their lives in fatal fires in these vehicles, including two in Virginia in 2012.
As a Virginia Beach products liability attorney, I am concerned to read about these serious defects on cars and SUVs we see every day on the roads. If you are injured due to a defect in an automobile, or a family member is killed, you may have grounds to file a lawsuit.
