Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers Welcomes New Attorney Charles Lustig
Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers is delighted to announce the appointment of a new attorney to our dedicated team of legal professionals. Charles B. Lustig brings three decades of experience to the firm. Lustig joined the firm as an attorney in January 2020. The firm now has four partners and four associates.
Lustig grew up in Norfolk and attended Norfolk Academy before studying for his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Virginia. Charles Lustig first met John Cooper, who later founded Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers with Jim Hurley, when they were students at UVA. They were in the same class and became moot court partners.
Lustig’s Professional Background
Lustig’s father, Wayne Lustig, was a well-known Hampton Roads attorney. “My dad was a lawyer, so it was always expected that I would be one,” he recalled. After law school, Lustig worked for a big city white-collar crime practice in Washington D.C for three years.
After a hiatus from the legal profession to study political science at George Washington University, he moved back to Hampton Roads in 1994 to be closer to his family. He worked as legal counsel to Norfolk Southern Railway and served as a public defender in Portsmouth. From 2005 to 2016, he worked as an attorney for a large personal injury and criminal defense firm in Virginia Beach before setting up a solo practice.
Lustig has handled cases in nearly every circuit court in Tidewater, Virginia, including Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Hampton, and Newport News. Notably, he has taken cases to the Supreme Court of Virginia.
He worked closely with John Cooper on personal injury cases during his time in private practice before joining Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers. “I liked all the people who worked here and knew I wanted to do personal injury work,” he said. “I enjoy the opportunity to help out people who are in distress.”
Lustig is currently involved in detailed legal research and writing for the firm as well as working with injury clients. Charles Lustig lives in Norfolk and describes himself as an avid bicyclist from April to November when he rides four or five nights a week. He is also a keen UVA sports fan. He watches the Tides and enjoys live music concerts in Hampton Roads.
