Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers Supports Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia’s Mardi Gras Event
Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers is a longtime supporter of Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia. Our firm recently donated $1,000 to the non-profit for its 2020 Mardi Gras Gala.
This year’s Mardi Gras event will be held on February 21 from 6.30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Hilton Norfolk The Main. It includes a live and silent auction, dancing, casino games, raffle prizes and a hosted bar. The event is an important annual fundraiser for Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia (CCEVA).
How Does Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia Help the Community?
Catholic Charities is an important non-profit that has worked with some of the most vulnerable people in the Hampton Roads community for decades. It was originally founded just over 90 years ago in 1932 as the Norfolk Bureau of Catholic Charities. The organization’s original purpose was to care for orphaned and abandoned children and widows in the Tidewater area. Today, this organization helps disadvantaged people from infants to senior citizens.
CCEVA provides youth and family services, mental health counseling, financial and housing support (including financial assistance), health and community services, adoption and pregnancy services, and senior services. The charity helps people of every race, creed, ethnicity and religion. CCEVA has field officers across a region stretching from the Eastern Shore of Virginia to South Hampton Roads, the Virginia Peninsula, Williamsburg, York County, and the Northern Neck of Virginia. CCEVA helps as many as 8,000 Virginia families every year.
Additionally, CCEVA provides post-adoption services. This organization follows the evidence-based Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) approach developed by Dr. Karen Purvis and Dr. David Cross. Purvis and Cross co-authored “The Connected Child: Bringing Hope and Healing to Your Adoptive Family.” The publication is intended to help adoptive parents understand the needs of children from difficult backgrounds. The goal of CCEVA’s program is to support, educate, and provide valuable tools and materials to help families maintain successful adoptive placements.
Catholic Charities provides pregnancy and parental support from its Care Centers on the Southside and the Virginia Peninsula. It also offers free diapers and baby supplies to families in need. Case management services are given to help pregnant women and new parents make safe parenting plans.
Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers supports CCEVA every year through sponsorships and donations. Partner Jim Hurley is a board member of Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia.
