Chesapeake Trucking Accident Attorney Report – Tractor Trailer Kills Woman on I-664
As Chesapeake trucking accident injury attorneys, cases in which heavy trucks are out of control on busy highways are often among the most tragic we deal with.
On the I-664 in Chesapeake on May 14, 2012, the driver of a broken down Nissan on the shoulder of the interstate was killed by an out of control tractor trailer. Police said 27-year-old Crystal Autumn Burgsteiner of Newport News, Va., died at the scene.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya of Virginia State Police said the driver of tractor trailer driver apparently suffered a medical emergency. It caused his truck to run off the road and crash into the broken down car on the shoulder of I-664 southbound, near Portsmouth Boulevard in Chesapeake, WAVY TV reported. However, he was later charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain a vehicle, raising the potential for a wrongful death lawsuit by the family of the victim.
The Nissan was pushed into the wood line by the force of the impact. The driver had little chance to escape.
The 47-year-old driver of the truck was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
Police say the victim was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. In a recent article in our Virginia wrongful death attorneys site, we highlighted the risks of not wearing a seat belt.
