Chesapeake Injury Lawyer Report : Millions of Unrepaired Recalled Cars Are Being Sold Online
It’s alarming when you read about the many recalls that affect the automotive industry, but at least you expect a car to be repaired once it’s the subject of a recall.
However, a new report from ABC news reveals every year millions of recalled cars are sold to buyers without these potentially dangerous defects being fixed.
In a report that alarms me as a Chesapeake auto accident lawyer, the article alludes to a report on the vehicle history website Carfax that reveals in 2012 just over 2 million unrepaired vehicles that were the subject of a recall, were sold online.
The actual number is likely to be even higher because the report only applies to online sales and the sites that were catalogued by Carfax. That’s a lot of vehicles with potentially dangerous defects that are still out there.
A number of states have reported a rise in vehicles being sold for sale that have not had recall-linked defects repaired.
The cars can be tracked because manufacturers and dealers track the VIN numbers of recalled cars.
Defective cars can cause serious injuries and deaths. As a Chesapeake products liability attorney, I have reported on some massive recalls in recent years including the recalls of millions of Toyotas that were linked to sudden acceleration.
Dangerous defects are not confined to the Japanese automaker, with many American manufacturers also making dangerous cars. Last year I reported on how Chrysler recalled hundreds of thousands of Jeep Liberty models for another potentially dangerous defect. The company said it could cause rear suspensions to give way. If you are injured by a defect on a car you may have a claim against the manufacturers.
