Pickup Truck Driver is Arrested in Hampton over Accident Involving Homeless man in Newport News
A driver has been arrested in Newport News and charged with hit-and-run after a homeless man was hit by a pickup truck in the city.
Holly McPherson, a Newport News Police Department spokeswoman said on March 7 at about 8:30 p.m. police communications received a number of calls relating to an accident involving a pedestrian in the vicinity of 74th Street and Jefferson Avenue.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian left the injured man on the scene. “Video surveillance shows a white pickup truck traveling west bound on 74th Street struck a homeless 46 year old man walking north bound on Jefferson Avenue,” McPherson said. The homeless pedestrian remains in the hospital with what Newport News police describe as “possible life threatening injuries.”
McPherson said Hampton police had arrested a 56-year-old man from their city. He has been charged with felony hit-and-run and reckless driving.
As a Newport News car crash lawyer, I see many instances in which drivers leave accident scenes, even when they have caused terrible injuries. If you have been hurt crossing the road, you will often have a good case to make a claim for your injuries against the driver’s insurance policy.
