Juan Carlos Mendoza is Seriously Injured in Wrong Way Driver Crash on Eastern Shore of Virginia
Police say a wrong way driver caused this week’s terrible crash on the Eastern Shore of Virginia that left one person dead and two injured.
ABC 13 News reported on how the driver of a Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 13 at a high rate of speed, according to media reports, at around 4.45 a.m. on Tuesday morning in the 16000 block of Route 13. The driver struck a 2005 Mitsubishi Gallant traveling in the southbound lanes head-on, according to reports, causing the Chevrolet to burst into flames. The driver of the Chevrolet died during the accident.
Police reported on how the driver of the Mitsubishi, 48-year-old Juan Carlos Mendoza Garcia of Hallwood, was initially transported by land ambulance and then flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. His female passenger was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital from the scene of the crash.
The crash blocked the southbound lanes of Route 13 near Courthouse Road until around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Police have not yet released the name of the deceased victim.
Route 13 (Lankford Highway) is the main road artery on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and sees numerous accidents. This crash occurred south of the U.S. 13 business route in Eastville, according to a news release.
