Holidaymakers Wesley and Elizabeth Martin Are Mown Down and Killed by SUV in Corolla, NC
The deaths of Wesley and Elizabeth Martin on Highway 12 in Corolla in Currituck County have led to questions being asked about the safety of the highway, reported WVEC.com.
But the immediate question is being asked as to how a driver could hit them from behind in this manner. As a North Carolina injury lawyer my thoughts are with the family of this married couple from Lancaster, Pennsylvania at this tragic time. While the family surely has cause to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver, no amount of money can make up for the loss of two lives.
WVEC.com reported Wesley and Elizabeth Martin were walking along the roadway close to the Timbuck II shopping center when an SUV hit them from behind. They were 10 feet off the road when they were struck.
Amanda Sullivan, who works at the shopping center, said there simply isn’t enough space on the two-lane highway. “There’s not enough space for everybody. It’s a two-lane highway. It’s dangerous,” she said.
The inadequacies of the highway may not be relevant in any legal proceedings. WVEC.com reported the 50year-old driver of the SUV from Ashburn, Virginia “told North Carolina State Highway Patrol he fell asleep at the wheel.”
The Martins leave behind four children aged 11 through 18. A wrongful death lawsuit covers a wide range of expenses including funeral and medical expenses and projected future income and financial contributions.
