Every year, about 24,000 babies are stillborn in the United States, affecting about 1 in 160 pregnancies. These losses are devastating to expecting parents and come with added concerns such as the health of the mother and the costs associated with burial. These struggles are known all too well by our friends at Kennedy’s Angel Gowns, a local nonprofit that works to provide support to parents who are facing the deaths of their infant babies. This comes in the form of emotional support through hospital visits and phone calls, as well as providing free infant burial gowns to honor the lives of the children.
To fund this important work, the team at Kennedy’s Angel Gowns started the Annual 5K Angel Run, which our team at Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers is proud to be a sponsor of this year. This event caters to the infant and pregnancy loss community, allowing participants to run in honor of their infants (“angel babies”). The team at Kennedy’s Angel Gowns honors each baby’s name and includes a special program for families at the event.
The race will occur on October 16th, right in the middle of Infant & Pregnancy Loss Awareness Month. Participants can arrive at 9:00 AM to receive their race packet or to register. The race will start at 10:15 AM at the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail, with awards and the time to remember starting after the race at 10:45 AM. Registration fees range from $35 to $55 depending on when you register, so be sure to sign up soon! To learn more about the 5K Angel Run and how you can register, visit the 5K Angel Run race page.
