How Are Military Car Accident Cases Handled When on Active Duty?
Video Transcript
Obviously, with Norfolk Naval Station and Oceana being here for us, we regularly are dealing with claims for military members and their spouses. Some of the more nuanced aspects of dealing with active duty military members claims are the fact that their medical care is generally done at military medical facilities be it Portsmouth Naval Medical Center or Fort Eustace up on the peninsula. These facilities can be a little more challenging to get medical records and bills from. They can be extremely challenging in trying to deal with or use doctors from those facilities as experts, so generally, we need to go out into the community and find civilian physicians to help us present injury claims for active duty military members. Thankfully, we have a good network of folks who are willing and able to evaluate claims for military members and provide testimony as to the injuries if needed. Some of the other issues that we see are the issues with TriCare and payment for medical bills, and how Tricare works, how it needs to be paid back. So there’s a lot of nuance on the back end of a claim as well that we’ve gained a lot of experience in dealing with. And lastly, a significant challenge is deployments and relocations. It’s not uncommon that I’m trying to schedule a time with a client who’s stationed in Japan, or stationed now in Hawaii, where we can talk about the claim and just kind of give updates as best we can. Email’s, great text is great, but sometimes you really just need to get on the phone with someone. And it’s something that we’re used to dealing with, like making sure that, you know, we’re calling at the right hour and that they’re not on some special assignment at the time. So it’s something we’re very experienced with and very proud to do is to help those in the military through this claims process. [jingle] No need to worry, call Cooper Hurley.
