Cooper Hurley Takes Part in The Foodbank’s Legal Food Frenzy

Legal Food Frenzy logo

Every year law firms across Virginia and legal organizations seek to help the needy by taking part in the Legal Food Frenzy to support local foodbanks. Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers is again backing the effort this year.

Our law firm helps many good causes across Hampton Roads and Virginia and we are regular supporters of the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.

The Legal Food Frenzy is supported by the Attorney General of Virginia, the Young Lawyers Division of The Virginia Bar Association, and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks.

Since its inception, the Legal Food Frenzy has raised enough money to purchase more than 15.6 million pounds of food for needy Virginians.

Scores of law firms across the state and law schools seek to raise as much money or get in as many food donations as possible. The winners are invited to a special award ceremony hosted by the Attorney General of Virginia.

Typically, young people in Virginia and the elderly bear the brunt of poverty and inadequate access to food.

A study by Feeding America found more than 935,000 Virginians are considered “food insecure.” Often those lacking food are children, older people, disabled adults, and working adults who are unemployed or underemployed and struggle to pay their bills.

Virginia’s food banks continue to see record demands for their services. In 2017, the food banks of Virginia distributed more than 139 million pounds of food and grocery products, 40 percent of it being fresh fruits and vegetables.

The statewide Legal Food Frenzy was set up in 2007. The Young Lawyers Division of the Virginia Bar Association joined forces with the Federation of Virginia Food Banks.

All Virginia law firms and organizations can take part in the competition. The law firm or organization that raises the most food (based on a per person average) will be awarded the prestigious “Attorney General’s Cup.” There are 11 additional awards in categories ranging from sole practitioners, small, medium, and large size firms, law schools and top corporate legal department.

Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers made a donation to the Legal Food Frenzy in 2017. We have supported the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore in the past. It was the beneficiary of our first Facebook ‘likes’ campaign.
