Two Attorneys from Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers Named in Leaders in the Law Awards

Two attorneys from Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers have been named in the prestigious Virginia Lawyers Weekly’s 2020 Leaders in the Law awards. Founding partner Jim Hurley and John Baker received accolades in the annual awards program – now in its 15th year.

Jim Hurley was named as one of the Class of 2020 “Leaders in the Law” selected by Virginia Lawyers Weekly. The publication honored just 26 lawyers from across the Commonwealth for their “outstanding contributions to the practice of law in Virginia, significant achievements through the practice of law, leadership in improving the justice system, and important contributions to Virginia’s legal community and/or the community at large.” Fellow Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers’ founding partner John Cooper was named as a Leader in the Law in 2019.

John Baker was named by Virginia Lawyers Weekly in its 2020 class of “Up and Coming Lawyers.” This awards program is in its fifth year. It recognizes attorneys across the Commonwealth who are making their mark in their first 10 years of practice. “These are the lawyers who are the leaders of the profession in the future,” stated Virginia Lawyers Weekly.

Virginia’s Leaders in the Law awardees are usually honored at an annual dinner in Richmond. However, the event is to be held virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic at 6 p.m. on Oct. 22.

“The current requirements of social distancing don’t permit us to safely come together in person. Therefore, we will host this year’s Leaders in the Law event as a COVID-compliant virtual event,” stated Virginia Lawyers weekly on the event’s webpage.

“Leaders in the Law is Virginia Lawyers Weekly’s signature event. VLW honors its annual class of lawyers who are setting the standard for other lawyers and recognizes attorneys and professionals in law-related fields who have a significant accomplishment or achievement,” the publication states.

The overall Leader of the Year will be voted by the 2020 leaders. Each honoree also will be profiled in a special supplement that will be inserted into Virginia Lawyers Weekly in October.

Jim Hurley has been practicing law across Virginia for more than three decades. He holds an AV Rating by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating given for his practice of law. He has been named in Virginia Super Lawyers since 2014. He set up Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers with John Cooper about nine years ago. Since then, the firm has expanded its presence in Norfolk and the number of attorneys and support staff it employs.
