The Virginia Beach-based non-profit Seton Youth Shelters plays an important role in the community in providing an emergency shelter and much more for hundreds of children and teens who face a crisis in their lives. Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers was honored to bring some happiness to the children and staff by donating tickets to Busch Gardens.
Chief Marketing Officer Cassidy Lewis recently paid a visit to the shelter to present tickets to Seton’s Executive Director, Jennifer Sieracki. Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers offered the organization as many Busch Gardens tickets as it wants.
How Does Seton Youth Shelter Help its Community?
“We’ve been here since 1985,” Sieracki said. “We provide shelter for boys and girls nine through 18 who may be runaways, homeless, have some issues at home, even some kids who are trafficked,” she said.
Seton also has a youth outreach program. Staff go into neighborhoods and help kids in their homes. It also runs a mentoring program for children of prisoners. “That’s a great opportunity for a child to be matched with a volunteer trained adult mentor who can step in and help them through difficult periods in their lives,” Sieracki said.
Additionally, Seton’s professionals offer anger management programs for teens who struggle with self-control. The charity shelters hundreds of children every year from the Hampton Roads area and beyond. Seton is building a new campus of just under 4 acres in central Virginia Beach where it hopes to centralize its programs. Seton’s services are free and the shelters are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
“We are here for the youth in our community who need us whenever they need us,” Sieracki said.
Lewis told Sieracki, Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers is donating as many Busch gardens tickets as the shelter wants. “These things are important as well; the ability to be a kid for a day,” Lewis said.
Sieracki is appealing for help to build the new campus. “This will help us bring the boys and girls we serve to a more efficient, secure space for them,” she said. The campus, when built, will have more green space to allow the children to be outside, plant vegetables, and learn about the environment.
At present, Seton Youth Shelters operates two shelters in Virginia Beach, one for boys and the other for girls. Residents receive youth advocacy and individual and family crisis counseling.
Case management activities facilitate the coordination of services, community referrals, and aftercare follow-up. Youth who enter the shelter program attend local public schools unless their parents provide transportation to their home school. Visit Seton’s website to find out more about this great organization.
