Do You Have the Right Insurance?
Minimum vs. recommended coverage levels
As of January 1, 2025, Virginia law mandates the following minimum motorcycle insurance coverage:
- Bodily Injury Liability:
- $50,000 per person
- $100,000 per accident
- Property Damage Liability:
- $25,000 per accident
- These requirements are outlined by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Additionally, Virginia requires uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage with the same minimum limits as liability coverage.
- Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury
- $50,000 per person
- $100,000 per accident
- Uninsured Motorist Property Damage:
- $25,000 per accident
- This coverage protects you if you’re involved in an accident with a driver who has insufficient or no insurance.
While these are the minimum requirements, it’s often advisable to consider higher coverage limits or additional coverage options, such as comprehensive and collision insurance, to make sure you have the right support no matter the accident.
