What Are Common Pain Points Clients Have When Trying To Handle Cases on Their Own?

Video Transcript

These are the common complaints I hear from people who try to handle the personal injury case on their own without an attorney. The most common complaints I get from people who try to handle their case on their own without consulting with or using an attorney are that initially the insurance company’s very kind. They’re very assuring. We’re going to take care of you or very sorry about what happened. They leave them feeling like they’re going to be taken care of and treated fairly. It just rarely is the case. They try to handle the case on their own. They try to gather the medical records and bills on their own. They try to get the insurance adjuster on the phone. Then they then the insurance company’s never answering the phone. They can no longer get them on the phone. And then it just takes forever and the insurance company just drags out the process for months and months and months and months and then they go radio silent. You sometimes don’t hear from the insurance company. This is a common tactic they use. They assure you on the front end and then they drag it out. And I think their goal is that they want you just so frustrated that when they finally make you a settlement offer that’s going usually going to be low and unfair that you’ll just take it to be done with the process. Another common complaint I get is when they can actually get a hold of the insurance company they’re dealing with, they always want more information. You think you’ve done everything. You think you’ve run around town and gathered all these bills and records and given them everything they need, tax returns, pay stubs, and they always want something a little bit more. They’ve got you running around town for months, gathering all the stuff for them, and then they make you a lowball offer. So, you’re just spinning your wheels for a year or more with an insurance company for them to offer you something that just doesn’t fairly reflect what you’ve been through and all the inconvenience you’ve been through. And then the other thing is they’ll drag this out and you get a little too close to that 2-year statute of limitation. In Virginia, you have two years ordinarily, there’s some exceptions, to file a personal injury case. And if you are unrepresented, they don’t view you as a legitimate threat to sue them or really their driver, their insured, and they know that and their offers are going to show that their settlement offer is going to reflect the fact that they don’t think you’re capable of filing a lawsuit and holding them accountable and making them pay fair money. If you have an attorney from the beginning, you save yourself all that aggravation, all that delay, all that running around town gathering records. The law firm does that for you. And these insurance companies know who we are. They know we’ll file a lawsuit. They know we’ll sue them if we have to. and they’re going to offer us their best money, their best offer on a case. And at the end of the day, you’re going to benefit from that. No need to worry. Call Cooper Hurley, the car crash experts. 333-3333.
