Our team at Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers is so excited to recognize our three winners for our Vote For A Cause program we held in the fall of 2020. While we had only planned on selecting one winner, our firm was impressed with the number of deserving organizations that our community nominated for this award, and we simply couldn’t pick just one. To learn about our winners and how they plan to use their award, check out their responses below.
What is your organization, what does your organization do?
Evelyn’s Wildlife Refuge is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that takes in 600+ injured, orphaned, and sick wildlife animals a year to be rehabilitated with the intent to release them back into the wild. We are made up of a group of volunteers who dedicate our time and energy to not only the animals’ care but educating the public on how to coexist with our local wildlife. We do not receive any government funding so we rely solely on the generosity of the public to operate.
How did you feel about winning this award?
We were completely overwhelmed and speechless over the amazing supporters we have that took the time to share the contest as well as vote for us. We are also truly honored that Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers chose us as one of the nonprofits for Vote for a Cause. It’s a true blessing.
How do you plan to use your award?
We rehab various species of wildlife, all of which require different foods and care. The award money will help with food, vet bills, vaccinations, and enrichment toys.
What is your organization, what does your organization do?
Paws In Need is a pet medical emergency fund for families facing losing their pets because they cannot afford emergency care. We do not cover routine care like shots and grooming but instead help when families and their pets need us the most.
How did you feel about winning this award?
I think it is awesome to be recognized for the purpose of our fund. With COVID-19 messing with so many folk’s incomes, there are a lot of families unable to cover the emergency medical care their pets need.
How do you plan to use your award?
This award will help one if not more pets in need of emergency vet care, whether it be surgery, mass removal, or an injury due to being hit by a car, etc.
Congratulations to Kennedy’s Angel Gowns for winning our Vote for a Cause contest! Kennedy’s Angel Gowns was started by Heather and Demitri Wilson after they lost their daughter Kennedy before birth. After dealing with this tragic loss, Heather and Demitri started Kennedy’s Angel Gowns to support parents who are going through the same situation they had to face in 2009. The organization provides free burial gowns for infants who tragically did not make it to term, as well as emotional support for the parents.
Our team at Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers is honored to help support such an important cause. We had almost 2,000 submissions from community members who wanted to support many deserving organizations throughout the Hampton Roads area. Although we could only pick one winner, we want to thank everyone for submitting your votes for deserving organizations. We plan to have another Vote for a Cause contest around the holiday season later this year, so stay tuned!
