What is the AAJ FELA Litigation Group?
As an experienced FELA lawyer representing injured railroad workers and their families, I receive lots of good information to do an even-better job for my clients by participating with national organizations like the AAJ, the American Association for Justice. The AAJ is a national-level organization which contains trial lawyers and plaintiffs’ lawyers from all over the country. AAJ has two conventions a year and at the primary one there’s always a series of continuing legal education programs specifically geared towards railroad-related litigation against the railroad companies.
I have been honored to have served as the chair of the railroad law section of the AAJ and have been reelected for several years as the head of the FELA litigation group which even more specifically deals with wrongful death and negligence claims by railroad workers and their families against the railroads for which they work. FELA is a right to sue your employer that is different than most employees get, as most employees only get state workers’ compensation. The FELA law specifically allows people who get hurt in interstate commerce working for major railroads like CSX, Norfolk Southern and Amtrak to sue if they get hurt on the job. As chair of the FELA litigation group, I help organize the seminars, choose speakers, and help the organization run smoothly at conventions and all year long.
One of the great assets of the AAJ railroad law section is that we have a list of where we share ideas with other FELA and railroad lawyers across the country on a daily basis. If one lawyer has a question about an expert he can find out what other lawyers have already learned by taking that expert’s deposition. In this way belonging to a national-level plaintiffs’ railroad lawyer group allows me to have the power of being in touch with and sharing information with lawyers all across the country. This balances the power against the major railroad carriers as they are also sharing information among their lawyers to try to figure out how to best get away with paying as little as they can to their injured workers. I am very proud of my work which has been going on for nearly a decade with the AAJ, the railroad law section, and the FELA litigation group. It is one of the things that makes me as good a railroad worker injury lawyer as I can be. If you have been hurt on the railroad, call our team.
