Types of Car Accidents in Virginia
Every year scores of people are killed in our state and hundreds are injured. There are many different types of car accidents in Virginia.
Virginia police recorded 65,306 injuries on the roads of the Commonwealth in 2017. The figure equates to the population of a mid-sized city. More than 42,000 crashes caused injuries. Double that number caused property damage.
Police in Virginia Beach, the largest city in the Commonwealth, recorded 6,741 crashes in 2017, 25 road deaths, and 3,416 injuries.
All the improved safety features, the campaigns, and the zero-tolerance enforcement of drunk and distracted drivers is failing to make significant inroads in the problem. Nationally, the number of road deaths rose in 2016 and 2017. Distracted driving continues to be a massive cause of deaths and injuries.
Types of car accidents in Virginia include rollover crashes, T-bone accidents, sideswipe wrecks, multi-vehicle accidents and single vehicle accidents. See our infographic for more details.
