Six Passengers are Transported to a Hospital After HRT Bus Hits a Truck on I-64 in Norfolk
Six people were injured in Norfolk when an HRT bus crashed into a truck on Friday afternoon on eastbound Interstate 64, stalling traffic during rush hour, according to reports.
Lauren Hansen with VDOT, said the bus accident occurred during rush hour at I-64 eastbound near Bay Avenue, in Norfolk, WAVY.com reported. The crash caused a backup of more than five miles as of 5 p.m. to the I-64/664 interchange. More seriously, a number of passengers appear to have been injured.
Tom Holden of Hampton Roads Transit said of 24 passengers on board, six of then were transported, WAVY reported.” He said the bus was traveling between 5 and 7 mph during the impact, and all passengers have been picked up by another bus,” the station reported.
It’s not clear why the bus crashed into a truck. As an experienced Norfolk auto accident attorney I hope the injuries were not serious. Details are still emerging of this serious accident, that comes just weeks after a tour bus overturned on Route 58 in Southampton County, killing one.
