The riders of scooter and mopeds are among the most vulnerable road users on the highways of Virginia.
Just days ago WAVY.com reported on how police were investigating a scooter wreck in Suffolk, VA. A scooter rider was injured when he ran off the road and into a ditch in the 3200 block of White Marsh Road.
A spokesman from the City of Suffolk said a 50-year-old man was riding the scooter when the accident occurred on June 23, 2013.
Although this was a single scooter accident, that’s not to say no other road user was to blame. The rider told police that a car was in his lane, causing him to run off the road and into a ditch.
He taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and this accident is still under investigation.
As a Suffolk motorcycle accident lawyer, I’m conscious of how many crashes on two wheelers are serious or even fatal. Last year I reported on the tragic death of a moped rider in Virginia Beach.
If you are riding a scooter you have little protection and are vulnerable. It’s a good idea to take a course such as the one offered by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
