Portsmouth Bicyclist Hurt By Dump Truck
This morning, a bicyclist was heading eastbound on High Street in Portsmouth when a large dump truck with over-sized mirrors struck him at the intersection of High Street and Carney Farm Lane. The bicyclist was transported to Portsmouth General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The dump truck driver was issued a summons at the scene for improper passing.
Incidents like this one happen often in our busy metropolitan area. Our Hampton Roads cities are bustling with big trucks and cars, making it difficult for bicyclists be safe on the roads. Cyclists should exercise caution when on the roads, and wear visible clothing. Car and truck drivers should also maintain caution, and remember to share the road with cyclists.
