Police Say Hit and Run Driver Left Child in Serious Condition in Hampton

There are fewer more tragic accidents that those that involve children on the highways of Hampton Roads. There are few things more despicable than hitting a child and leaving the accident scene.
This is what appears to have happened in Hampton on Monday afternoon, according to police.
Sgt. Jason Price of Hampton Police Division said police officers responded to a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of E. Mercury Boulevard and Clay Street just after 2 p.m. When they arrived at the scene, a 12-year-old boy was lying in the road. He was flown to a local hospital with critical injuries, Sgt. Price said.
Investigators said the child was trying to cross the street when a gray vehicle traveling westbound on E. Mercury Boulevard struck him. Police say there was a male driver in the car and the vehicle likely has front end damage.
