Passenger James Wilson is Killed on Wesleyan Drive in Norfolk

I was saddened to read about the death of a passenger on Wesleyan Drive in Norfolk after he got out of a vehicle to put an item in the trunk.
Norfolk Police reported the crash that left one man dead and another injured on the 1500 block of Wesleyan Drive on Tuesday night.
Police said a Dodge Stratus was traveling southbound when the driver stopped the vehicle in traffic. The passenger then got out of the vehicle to put items in the trunk when a Mazda CX-7 which was traveling in the same lane hit the Stratus, pinning the passenger between both vehicles.
The passenger, who was later identified as James Wilson of Chesapeake, was transported to Sentara Lee Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:38 p.m. Another man was transported to a local hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Norfolk Police Department’s Auto Fatality Team is investigating the incident. The Virginian-Pilot reported the case remains under investigation and will be forwarded to the Commonwealth’s Attorney for review.
My thoughts are with the family of Mr. Wilson. Time and time again I see passengers mown down on the streets of Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Hampton and other cities in Hampton Roads. Many drivers fail to keep a proper look out for people who have exited from cars and those who have broken down.
