Passenger is Seriously Injured When Car Hits Home on Beach Road in Hampton, VA
A passenger is reported to be fighting for his life after the car he was being driven in crashed into a home in Hampton, VA.
Hampton Police spokeswoman Cpl. Mary Shackelford said calls related to a “reckless driver” were received in the Grandview area of Hampton at 6 p.m. on June 3, 2013. As officers were responding to the scene, dispatchers told police the call had been upgraded to a crash, reported WAVY.com.
WAVY reported investigators arrived at the 900 block of Beach Road to find a Honda Civic had hit the front porch of a house. Shackelford said medics transported the 20-year-old male passenger to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 22-year-old male driver of the car was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The people inside the home were not hurt. Just a week ago I reported on an accident in nearby Newport News in which the elderly occupant of a home in Kiln Creek was killed by a driver who was later charged with DUI offenses.
It’s not clear why the driver lost control of his car in Hampton but speed appears to have been a factor in this crash. Shackelford said the driver of the car was traveling east on Beach Road when the driver lost control, veered off the road and struck the house.
