Norfolk, VA FELA Lawyer John Cooper is Appointed Legal Counsel to Union for Railroad Carmen
John Cooper, an experienced Norfolk, VA based railroad and FELA (Federal Employers Liability Act), attorney has been appointed as a designated legal counsel to the carmen division of the Transportation Communications International Union (TCU).
The designation reflects John’s long background in helping workers who have been injured on the railroads of America.
The Transportation Communications Union/IAM represents about 46,000 members in the U.S. Most of them are most employed in the railroad industry. In July 2005, the Maryland-based TCU affiliated with the IAM, with a full merger underway in 2012.
The union describes itself as a “diverse alliance,” on its website. It represents people from many different backgrounds who work on the railroads including clerks, technicians, service workers and carmen.
Carmen perform a vital and potentially dangerous job on the railroads. It is their job to keep the freight moving. They have to troubleshoot and perform repairs to freight cars and air brake systems, using skills and knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration and Association of American Railroads rules.
As experienced Norfolk, VA FELA lawyers, we are aware of the many dangers facing railroad workers in an area that includes services by the big operators including CSX, Amtrak and Norfolk Southern.
These are big players in the railroad industry but their safety record is questionable at best.
