Norfolk Teacher Suspended, Charged With DUI After Fatal Crash
Norfolk Public School officials have suspended an Azalea Gardens Middle School Health and Physical Education teacher. Ronald Sharpe, 28, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after a fatal automobile accident on February 21, 2009 at 1:30 a.m. Police said they charged Sharpe with DUI after he lost control of his vehicle on Northampton Boulevard, crossed into oncoming traffic and slammed into another vehicle.
Ronald Sharpe has been suspended with pay, pending the outcome of his case in court, said Jennifer Francis, a spokeswoman for the school system.
A 19-year-old West Point woman who was driving the other car was pronounced dead at the scene.
