Norfolk and Virginia Beach, VA Based Attorney is Reelected as a Governor for Virginia Trial Lawyers Association
John Cooper, a partner with Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers, has been reelected as a 2nd district governor for the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.
His term will run from 2012 to 2013. The 2nd district covers Norfolk and Virginia Beach, the cities where Cooper Hurley, a personal injury law firm, has offices.
The Virginia Trial Lawyers Association is a voluntary bar association that was established in Williamsburg, VA in 1959.
Its website says it is “dedicated to enhancing the knowledge, skills and professionalism of trial lawyers and committed to improving the law and the fairness of Virginia’s system of justice.”
VTLA is the largest organization of its kind with about 2,200 members across the Commonwealth, representing clients in a vast number of practice areas.
The organization also has VTLA paralegal/legal assistant members who support its attorney members. The majority of members own or work in small to midsized law firms and spend a substantial portion of their time in the courtroom.
VTLA conducts a variety of continuing legal education seminars throughout Virginia to help trial lawyers and their support staff designed to enhance competency and provide currency in the law. VTLA also operates, along with the William & Mary School of Law, the Virginia College of Trial Advocacy (VCTA), an intensive training course designed to hone and improve advocacy skills.
John Cooper was born and raised in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, VA. He has worked with the victims of car, truck and motorcycle accidents for 23 years. Other legal areas in which John has significant experience include railroad worker injuries under the FELA law, wrongful death and train crossing accidents.
He was elected in 2011 to Chair the FELA Litigation Group of the American Association for Justice (the largest plaintiffs’ attorney organization in the US) and was first elected as one of two district governors of the Trial Lawyers Association Board of Governors in 2010.
He was listed among VA “Superlawyers” for personal injury law since 2010 and chosen in 2011 for “Top 100 Trial Lawyers in VA”
John Cooper has had a top rating of “AV” by Matindale Hubbell attorney reputation assessment system for highest level of skill and ethics since 2004 and has been a member since 2011 in the Multi-million Dollar Advocates Roundtable
