Nissan Recalls More than 60,000 Cars over Stalling Problem
Nissan has become the latest large automobile company to issue a recall of thousands of cars after a stalling problem was identified.
The recall affects about 34,000 Nissan Sentras and 28,000 Jukes, the New York Times reported.
The automaker told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration it first learned of the stalling problem in November 2010, but testing didn’t suggest that a recall was needed until December, 2011.
The stalling problem may not sound as serious as some recent defects we have highlighted as experienced Norfolk-based car accident injury attorneys; for instance, Ford recently recalled 129,000 Ford Fusions and Mercury Milans because of a defect that could have led to a wheel falling off.
But there are some instances where stalling could prove serious. If a car stalls at a railroad crossing, it could have fatal consequences and if your car unexpectedly stops you could be rear-ended.
If a manufacturer is to blame because of a defect, there are grounds for a wrongful death lawsuit or a personal injury lawsuit.
Nissan is just the latest car manufacturer to be the subject of a recall due to a defect that could affect thousands of cars.
Subaru recently announced that the deliveries of its 2012 Impreza have been slowed down because of the brake recall.
And Ford has detailed a voluntary recall of almost 16,100 F-Series pickups and heavy-duty trucks after it was discovered the automatic transmission could be shifted out of park and into gear without pressing the brake.
All these recalls point to serious manufacturing flaws in an automobile industry that appears to be showing few signs of improving its safety record any time soon.
