More Than 5,000 Mack Trucks Are Recalled Due to Faulty Brakes
I report on many recalls due to dangerous defects every year as an experienced Virginia car and trucking accident attorney.
Faults on trucks are particularly alarming given the size of these vehicles and how much longer it can take them to stop.
Given that it’s crucial to have your brakes in good working order, I was alarmed to read that Mack Trucks, is recalling more than 5,000 trucks due to a defect with their brakes.
The recall affects 5,203 model year 2013-2014 CHU, CXU, GU, MRU, and LEU trucks manufactured July 16, 2012, through March 18 of this year that are equipped with drum brakes.
Truckinginfo.com reported A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration bulletin stated the clevis pin for the brake slack adjuster may be missing a cotter pin.
“If the cotter pin is not installed, the clevis pin may loosen and fall out causing a loss of brake function on the affected wheel,” stated Truckinginfo.com.
The report stated a loss of brake function at one wheel would mean increased stopping distances for Mack trucks and they would pull to the left or right when braking, which may increase the risk of a truck crash.
The recall is expected to begin on, or before, June 17. Owners may contact Mack Trucks at 1-800-528-6586. The recall campaign number is SC0370. Owners of trucks affected by the recall may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov.
Truck accidents are among the most serious I see as Virginia Beach injury lawyer. One of my clients was seriously injured in a crash with a defective Mack truck in Virginia.
The Mack truck with worn and bald tires experienced a “sudden” and unexpected tread separation, hitting our client’s Toyota. Our client’s leg was broken in two places, requiring surgical insertion of a metal rod, plate, and screws. Sadly she was not able to return to her previous job because of the extent of her injuries.
All cases are different. We cannot guarantee the same result in your case. If you are injured by a fault on a truck or tractor trailer you could contact a product liability lawyer in Virginia.
