Man Crashes Car at High Speed in Franklin, Killing 12-year-old Daughter
There are fewer scenarios that sadden me more than the death of a child in Virginia. When the irresponsible actions of a parent are to blame, the circumstances are even more harrowing. This appears to be the scenario that played out in Franklin, Virginia, last weekend when a single car crash claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl.
WAVY.com reported the death of the girl from J.P. King Jr. Middle School in Franklin. The accident happened around 11:32 a.m. on Route 258, close to Sycamore Church Road, according to Virginia State Police.
WAVY reported police said a 2007 Chevy Impala driven by a 45-year-old man, was heading north on Route 258 at a high rate of speed on the morning of October 26. According to troopers, the driver tried to make an unsafe lane change and lost control of the car that overturned a number of times.
According to reports the driver had six people in the car with him including five children whose ages ranged from 5 to 12. All of the passengers were treated at area hospitals.
Police said alcohol and speed were factors in this terrible crash. It always amazes me when drivers get behind the wheel when intoxicated, although I cannot comment on this specific case. It’s even worse if you have children in your car who are not in a position to choose whether they should get into a car with an adult. Charges are reported to be pending in the wake of the Franklin accident, upon the case review by the Commonwealth Attorney.
Passengers who are hurt in a car wreck can often make a claim against the insurance policy of the at-fault driver. The relatives of a loved one who is killed in a wreck can often make a wrongful death claim.
