Man Crashed His SUV and Jumped off I-64 High Rise Bridge in Chesapeake

As Chesapeake personal injury lawyers, we see many incidents of drivers fleeing an accident scene. However, few are as extreme as in the aftermath of an I-64 crash in Chesapeake when a driver jumped off a bridge to escape.
WAVY.com reported on how police are searching for a man who crashed his SUV on a major interstate and fled the scene, jumping off a bridge.
Sgt. Michelle Anaya, a spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police, revealed the crash happened around 2:15 a.m. on May 2 on Interstate 64 at the High Rise Bridge in Chesapeake. Virginia State Police say a 1996 Chevy Blazer was traveling eastbound when the driver lost control of the SUV and the vehicle overturned.
If the driver was injured in ths crash, he showed few signs of it. Anaya said he was seen by witnesses getting out of the driver side window and fleeing the scene of the crash. Anaya said he was also seen jumping off the end of the bridge, but not into the water, close to Bainbridge Boulevard.
Around 10:35 a.m., Anaya reported investigators had suspended the search for the suspect.
A passenger was trapped in the SUV . He was removed from the vehicle and taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said. It appears the driver who caused this crash had something to hide. Irrespective of criminal charges, he could face a claim brought by the passenger for any injuries received.
