There were chaotic scenes and serious delays on the Interstates of Hampton Roads during the afternoon commute on June 7, 2013, as a result of a number of accidents.
Portsmouth police were at the scene of a single vehicle accident in the eastbound lane of I-164 near the West Norfolk Bridge, said spokeswoman Jan Clarke. A driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Later a second accident occurred on I-164 in Portsmouth near the APM Terminal exit. Two drivers were injured and were transported to local hospitals. The eastbound lanes were closed for some time.
Accidents also caused chaos during the afternoon commute on the Virginia Peninsula. A crash on I-64 at Fort Eustis caused a nine mile back up. The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT) in Hampton saw a five mile backup on the same afternoon.
