Injured Family in Fairfax, VA Wreck Demand Personal Contribution from Intoxicated Driver

Drunken drivers routinely wreck lives and have to pay. Sadly it is the accident victim who often pays the highest price.
In a recent case in Virginia, members of a family, who were injured in a head-on crash with a drunken driver, demanded a personal contribution from the at-fault driver.
The intoxicated driver caused the collision on Blake Lane in Fairfax County, VA when he ran a red light. The driver injured a husband, wife and their 4-year-old child. Virginia Lawyers Weekly reported on how the insurer offered to settle the case for policy limits but the plaintiffs demanded a personal contribution from the defendant.
The three cases brought by the plaintiffs settled for a total of $575,000 of which the defendant made a personal payment of $77,713. The funds were divided among the three people who were hurt.
When a drunk driver causes a crash with injuries he or she may also be liable for punitive damages. In Virginia, if the drunk driver refused to take a BAC test, or if they had a BAC of .15% or above, punitive damages can be factored into your case to punish the driver for their willfully reckless actions.
