Hundreds of Auto Crashes are Reported Across Virginia as Snow Falls
Snow caused interstate closures and hundreds of crashes in Virginia on Friday afternoon, with almost 20 recorded in Hampton Roads alone.
Heavy snowfall at the same time as the evening commute proved problematic in cities such as Norfolk, Chesapeake and Portsmouth, VA.
As of 4:45 p.m., Virginia State Police reported troopers were still handling 157 calls for service, with 130 of those being traffic crashes and another 19 for disabled vehicles. The figure was climbing through the evening.

State police also issued an Icy Conditions Advisory was issued for south bound I-664 at Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel South in Newport News at 6 p.m.
As of 6:30 p.m., Jolly Pond Road in James City County was shut down due to ice on the road.
